Tending the Light Within

A Winter Solstice Sacred Reclamation Sister Circle

Tending the Light Within

At the Winter Solstice, we arrive at the longest night and the deepest darkness of the year.

There is something sacred in this turning point. A moment when darkness is not something to escape, but something to honour. A place of stillness, rest and inwardness from which, almost imperceptibly at first, the light begins to return.

And within that darkness, we can turn towards the light we carry within ourselves.

What has brought warmth, meaning and aliveness into our lives? What within us has continued to glow, perhaps quietly? What do we want to tend with care as we move through the winter months?

On the eve of the Winter Solstice, we will gather in Circle to honour this seasonal threshold together and give our own inner light our sacred attention.

An evening of Sacred Reclamation held between darkness and returning light.

At the Turning of the Light

The Winter Solstice marks the moment when the Sun reaches its lowest point in our northern sky, bringing us the longest night and shortest day.

For generations, people have marked this threshold with fire and light, gathering in the darkness while honouring the promise of the Sun's return.

The change does not arrive all at once. The light returns gradually, almost unnoticed at first.

The Solstice reminds us that stillness and becoming can exist together. That we can honour the darkness while tending the light.

Most of us arrive at a point, at some stage in our lives, where we realise we have been living inside a collection of definitions that do not fully belong to us.

Some of them were given to us by others. By society, by circumstance, by the bodies we were born into, by the roles we stepped into with love or necessity or simply because life asked it of us.

Some of them we gave to ourselves. Measuring our worth by our career title. Defining ourselves by what we could achieve or produce. Allowing the labels: illness, relationship status, caring role, body size, mental health history, to become the whole story of who we are.

I know this from the inside.

I have been defined by polycystic ovaries that meant I could not have children, and by a society that has a particular word for women like me. I have been defined by fibromyalgia, by depression, by anxiety. By caring roles that asked me to put myself last. By a career I worked hard to build and then lost. By a body that did not cooperate with the life I was trying to live.

And I know the moment when you look at all of those labels and roles and ask, quietly and with a kind of aching honesty, but which one is actually me?

That question is not a crisis. It is a beginning.

Because beneath every role you have ever carried, every label that has ever been placed on you or that you have placed on yourself, there is a woman who existed before any of it. Who has her own nature, her own desires, her own truth. Who has perhaps been waiting, patiently and without complaint, to be remembered.

Some roles are a joy and a blessing. Some are carried with genuine love. This is not about abandoning them or deciding they were wrong. It is about finding the woman underneath them all, and beginning to live from that place rather than being defined by the weight of what you carry.

That is where Sacred Reclamation begins. With remembering who you are.

What We Will Explore Together

This Circle is an invitation to honour your own inner light and become curious about what you want to tend as we cross the threshold of the Winter Solstice together.

Through guided meditation and journalling, there will be space to reflect upon what brings warmth, meaning and nourishment into your life, what has sustained you, and what within you deserves your care and attention through the winter months.

We will share a simple candle ritual, lighting our individual flames together as a symbol of the light we each carry and the light created when women gather in Circle.

And through conversation and shared reflection, there will be space to listen, witness and experience this ancient seasonal turning in community with other women.

An hour to pause within the darkness, honour what is present and tend the light within.
